Gold Inlays/Onlays

Boston, Cambridge, Massachusetts

Inlays and onlays are commonly used on back teeth as an alternative to dental fillings. Dental inlays and onlays can also be used when a tooth is damaged, but a dental crown would be unnecessarily invasive. In many cases, we can place porcelain inlays/onlays, but that material may not be strong enough to provide the same biting and chewing function of certain teeth. If porcelain restorations are ill-suited to address your specific issue, our Boston dentists will discuss alternatives such as gold inlays/onlays which may better meet your needs.

If you live in or around Cambridge or Boston, Massachusetts and would like to learn more about your dental restoration options, please contact Charles River Dental or call (617) 939-9579 to schedule an appointment with one of our general dentists today.

The Gold Standard

Gold dental restorations such as inlays and onlays are incredibly durable, making them ideal for high impact areas such as molars. Gold is resistant to tarnish and corrosion and is generally well tolerated even by patients with metal allergies.

Inlays are placed in between the cusps of teeth, while onlays extend over one or more cusps. Both porcelain and gold inlays and onlays preserve a greater portion of your natural tooth than dental crowns or amalgam restorations. However, gold inlays and onlays preserve a greater portion of your natural tooth enamel than porcelain, again making them better suited for back teeth where larger cavities may be present.

At Charles River Dental, we understand that no single solution is going to be ideal for every patient. We personalize our general dentistry services to meet the unique needs of each patient and would be happy to discuss what will best enhance and protect your smile during your appointment.
